News: Eugene Our School Dog!

We had a lovely assembly this morning, with dog-trainer extraordinaire Jayde Davey, who lots of the children remembered from our Country Show. Jayde spoke to the children about how to stay safe around dogs and the signs that indicate when a dog is happy or grumpy.

Jayde’s visit was also used to introduce the children to Eugene who is our new school dog! After his last visit, some of our Year 5 & 6 children wrote to our Governing Body, asking their approval for Eugene to be a regular visitor. With the approval granted and a policy in place, he will now be in school most days and spending time in classes or out on the yard.

Eugene is my dog, he’s a Shih Tzu and on Christmas Eve he will be 10years old. He has been brought up with children, is well behaved and trained. Eugene loves to be stroked and will listen to stories for hours! He has a calming nature and is very much a house dog. Our new School Dog Policy can be found on the website under the Information tab.

Please note that our rules regarding dogs on school grounds remain in place – parents/carers must not bring dogs onto school grounds at drop-off/collection times  (exceptions of course are made for guide dogs).

Jayde observed Eugene interacting with some of the children and will be coming back into school over the coming weeks to check on his welfare and to speak to the children some more about dog care – we’re hoping that she’ll also bring Sherlock again!

If any parents/carers would like to meet Eugene or have any questions, please contact me at school and I will try to bring him out at the end of the school day at some point during the week.
